What is new in 2026
Madrid. The Spanish Grand Prix has moved to the Madring, a new hybrid street-and-permanent circuit on the edge of the Spanish capital, notable for its banked La Monumental corner and a “car killer” reputation earned before a single competitive lap. Malaysia. The Bahrain Grand Prix — normally the season’s traditional early-season fixture — was relocated to the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia in October, keeping its title on the official calendar while returning Formula 1 to a circuit it last visited in 2017. The FIA has said it will not “jump the gun” on further changes to Middle Eastern rounds, so the end-of-season Qatar and Abu Dhabi races remain scheduled.
Zandvoort’s farewell. The Dutch Grand Prix’s August round was its last, as the circuit leaves the calendar after 2026 — see our Zandvoort tribute.
Sprint weekends
Six rounds use the sprint format in 2026: China, Miami, Canada, Britain, the Netherlands and Singapore. Each adds a Friday sprint qualifying session and a Saturday sprint race worth up to eight points.
How the season is structured
The calendar is arranged in regional blocks to reduce freight: an opening Asia-Pacific swing, a North American trip in May, the European summer from Monaco to Monza, an autumn stretch through Azerbaijan, Malaysia and Singapore, a return to the Americas in October and November, and the traditional Middle Eastern finale in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. The summer break falls between Hungary in late July and the Netherlands in late August.
Start times in the UK
Most European races start at 2pm UK time. The Asian and Australian rounds start early on Sunday morning for UK viewers; the American races run from early evening to the small hours, with Las Vegas latest of all.
